Maurepas Swamp WMA Map

Does anybody know of where I can find a more detailed map of the Maurepas swamp WMA? It would be helpful to know established trails, landmarks, topography, etc, before I just go trekking off into the woods blind. I’m interested in possible hunting around the King George Rd. tract around French Settlement, Blind River parts, and maybe off of I10. Any advice on where to start looking for decent hunting spots in those areas?

There is a parking spot on Hwy 16 near French Settlement, there are a few trails cut through the woods there, I have not been to the King George side of that property. There is no access points along i-10, if you park along the interstate you will be ticketed. Boat is you best option for most of this property...

Are you allowed to park on the side of hwy 641? I don't have access to a boat. I don;t mind a tough hike, or figuring things out, although I've heard the terrain is pretty tough to navigate.

How far can you hike in a swamp? Then lets say you kill, how are you going to get a deer out?

Yeah, I saw that parking area on hwy 16 and thought that would be a good place to start. I figured that tract wouldn't be as swampy as some of the other areas. Have you heard any hunting reports from that location?

frick a bottle of water. I bring a camelback and put all of my shite in there. I have been caught a few times dehydrated after drinking most of a camelback walking around in the swamp all day. That humidity can sneak up on you quickly. It's not fun feeling that your brain isn't working right because you're dehydrated.
A compass, a map, and water are the three absolute most important things on have. I have been plenty of places where a GPS couldn't get a lock because of tree cover. Because of that, I rarely use them. Knowing how to use them helps a lot too

flash earth
you will need to orientate yourself bc no borders for wma are on here, but quality is pretty good.

There is a slough that runs through the middle of that tract. I've been over the top of my waders trying to cross it before. There is a cut trail on the higher portion of ground. Not sure how well the boundaries are marked now. Last year it wasn't so great. Ended up at the edge of a food plot with a boxstand. Be aware of your surroundings.

If you are willing to spend some dough, check out Apex Mapping Solutions (apexmappingsolutions.com). The guy makes really nice maps of all the public lands in Louisiana. I prefer the LiDAR maps, since Google Earth imagery is high res. He basically overlays all of the features from the WMA map with roads, utilities, etc.
I think the smaller size (3'×4' IIRC) runs about $20.
Not sure what his status is right now though. He is located in BR, and the flooding did affect him.
