Fwiw, Palmer has been a better QB throughout his career than Eli Manning, but neither deserve to get in the HOF.

I guess that really would settle the debate over how much championships matter. Seems dumb, to be such a true team sport.

Yeah I mean if Eli gets in, you open the floodgates to lesser players everywhere. No one would consider Palmer even close, yet plenty of people argue for Eli to get in.

I think Eli gets in because of the Joe Namath rule.

Voters seem to put inordinate amount of worth in this undefinable "clutch moements" based on team achievements but given to the QB because "he's the general" in the antiquated world of Pro Football lexicon and thinking among voters.

Maybe Johnny Unitas was the general on the field...but those days are long gone. Nobody is a general on the field these days with specialization...even Joe Montana wasn't - Walsh called everyting...and control like Belichick and all organizations. QBs can audible but they ain't calling shite on their own without massive input from the sidelines and upstairs. Even Manning, he got 2-3 plays in his helmet...and audibled to what looked best to him at the line. But he wasn't devising any goddamn gameplan like they said Montana did...that was Walsh...coaches get paid for a reason...you don't just acquiesce your role.

That really hasn't happened for 40 years in the NFL - despite idiot announcers saying, "he's a coach on the field." B.S. He's a QB on the field, that's his job, make the throws. He has a few options to change things...but nobody is designing the offense down the field like Johnny Unitas.

Eli has had disastrous years. But yet he gets talked about HOF...Palmer has a bunch of good and never bad years...and even looked good on the damn Raiders when the Raiders sucked arse.

But HOF will never look at QBs in isolation...like Heisman, it's always team achievement, media-love and moments to remember that we can watch on the good old NFL Films. Joe Namath endorses Eli in but Palmer out. (And Palmer shouldn't be in...that tells you something how much the SB might carry Eli...scary...he was quite crap for many seasons.)

Probably not. But he's been a very solid QB for over a decade.

If you compare Carson Palmer's numbers to Troy Aikman's adjusted for era, they're very similar.

Y/A+ - Yards per attempt

Aikman- 104
Palmer- 107

Advantage- Palmer

NY/A+ -- Net yards per attempt

Aikman- 108
Palmer- 109

Very slight advantage- Palmer

AY/A+ -- Adjusted yards per attempt

Aikman- 104
Palmer- 105

Very slight advantage- Palmer

ANY/A+ -- Adjusted net yards per attempt

Aikman- 106
Palmer- 106

Push

Cmp%+ -- Completion percentage index

Aikman- 114
Palmer- 106

Advantage- Aikman

TD%+ - Passing TD percentage

Aikman- 95
Palmer- 106

Advantage- Palmer

Int%+ -- Interception percentage

Aikman- 106
Palmer- 97

Advantage- Aikman

Rate+ -- Passer rating

Aikman- 106
Palmer- 105

Slight Advantage- Aikman

Aikman was a much more accurate passer who was better at taking care of the ball while Palmer was far more prolific at throwing TD passes but all of their other numbers are virtually identical. So if Aikman's in the HOF, who's to say Palmer shouldn't be in as well?

Two very different visions continue to contend when it comes to Halls of Fame.

Is it a gatekeeping exercise to define the greatest of all time, or an achievement through productivity available to any who enjoy long term, sustained, and successful play?

Palmer is a good litmus test for which side of that divide a person falls on-- perhaps only surpassed by Eli Manning.

Has anyone ever watched Carson Palmer and thought "I'm watching a future Hall of Famer?"

Apart from a few big throws in the SB...has anyone thought Eli was?

He's helmet catch throw was a college toss-up throw.

But granted his throw from his goal line, against Pats 2.0 - was money as hell to the sideline.

I think people love Eli because he destroys Boston fans. Who have became annoying with the emergence of the Sox and Pats at the same time. The sports world became New England for the last 10 years. That's all media cared about. Pats/Sox...

He has a super bowl and 20,000 more passing yards.

So even in an age of inflated passing numbers his numbers are HOF worthy

Carson Palmer is a lot like Tony Romo in my opinion. They have both been pretty good QBs but are often injured and would probably need a SB Run to be considered for the HOF.
