I just don't understand the negative perception of the buyout. Why can't LSU come out with a statement that any buyout comes from private funds and does not impact the budget?

That makes total sense however Jindal and F. King apparently thought they did not have the political capital to fight that battle when Jindal and the state legislature was making budget cuts all over the state.

What the Athletic Department should be doing every day between now and the end of the world is promoting the idea that the Athletic Department and the TAF have nothing to do with the state or university budget. That way, if this ever comes up again it will already be in the public domain and politics will not queer the deal.

Because in this day and age, people would complain "even though that's privately funded and not our money, they should give it to the school instead"

Ya know, entitlement shite

Because the average everyday person cannot understand how money is earmarked and that one form of funding does not impact the other.

Also, a lot of the people that were talking about how LSU couldn't afford to fire Miles bc of the budget issues were of the opinion that if the State is having financial issues, TAF should give money to LSU to fix the budget.

While that makes sense, you have to see both sides of the argument.
Yes, it is private money and they should never be told what they can and can't do with it. To pay a man 15 million to go away because he can't win football games at a school then to have said school turn around and ask for a government handout to keep the doors open is kind of a dick move. Take your homeristic feelings and love for football out of the equation. Look at it from the governments point of view. Schools were not built to provide a place to play football. They were built for education. Ergo football should take a backseat to education.

Also take into consideration that from the governments view, you just had people pay 15 million because they "love LSU" presumably. Well if you "love LSU", why can you not find it to make sure the money is there to keep the educational part of it open too. Football is not a necessity for a university to be successful.

And my goodness. Perception will fade away soon enough.
