I always hear this and just wonder if it is marketing as well. Like how the oil change places made people believe they need to change their oil every 3,000 miles. If I had to guess that 8 year time limit is BS.

Maybe, but this seems to be with the foam mattress "revolution" - a foam mattress is literally a sponge and it does not attract accumulate dust mites (or their excrement) the way and innerspring mattress does, particularly with a proper cover or encasement. But it DOES draw moisture and mold. I'm thinking 8 years is about right for a foam (unless they warranty it for longer) and 10 to 12 is for a traditional, again because of the dust mite issue.

My last mattress lasted 15 years, so I've had good luck overall.
