What would it take for him to get serious Heisman consideration? 2 games in and he's scored 2 touchdowns. Not bad for a defensive player.

A few TDs if/when this team plays in big games and wins down the road is the bare minimum.

If Mathieu didn't win it I don't know if there is anything he can do

Now if he keeps it up he might be able to get to NYC but I can't see him winning it

He'd need a big play a week. Probably a interception, forced fumble, or a TD. Likely would need two a week. Would need similar production to Mathieu.

If TM7 didnt win the Heisman then TWHITE has no chance. TM7 was the biggest defensive playmaker in the last 20 years.

Bruh.

If Tyrann Mathieu cant win the Heisman as an LSU defensive back, no one can.

This is dumb. Sorry.

It would take better performances than Honey Badger, which is obvious because he didn't win it. The award is just slanted toward offensive players that put up big stats, I'm not sure we ever see a defensive player win it in the future. HB was the best football player on the field every time he stepped between the lines, and it took him pulling off crazy shite just to be considered. White is a decent return guy(he makes some questionable choices back there sometimes), and a good CB. If he was a great return man, and scored something ridiculous, like 8 return TD's, he would get an invite. He can't do stuff like he did against Florida last year, or Wiscy two weeks ago.

Nothing against white but I doubt he maintains this production. While a very good punt returner I think the TD this week wouldn't have happened against a better opponent.

A defensive player will never win this award again.

Keep scoring touchdowns. He might get picked to be a token defensive player representing. He'll have to have a monster November.

he would need to do as much as honey badger did...and LSU would need to be in contention for playoffs or SEC title.

He has a fumble recovery too!

That said, first thing he would need is for LSU to be in the playoffs come the second weekend in Dec. Except for QBs, the Heisman has become an award given to the best player on the best team. You could argue that McCaffery had better overall numbers than Henry last season. However, Henry got the nod because he played for one of the perceived "best teams". For as great as Matheiu was in 2011, he doesn't get an invite if LSU isn't in the NC game. And remember, Mathieu's stat line was unbelievable:

7.5 TFL
6 Forced fumbles
5 recovered fumbles
2 INTs
4 TDs (2 PR and 2 fumble recoveries)

White is off to a great start, but I think he's going to need at least 7 Ints; 3-5 forced fumbles/fumble recoveries and likely 5 total TDs to get consideration.

Charles Woodson had 8 Ints and only 1 defensive TD in 1997, but, he also played offense AND his team played for the National Title

If he can have amazing game changing plays against top competition then he may get an invite. If he makes a play that beats Bama, that will give him a huge bump. No chance a defensive player wins it.
