When I used to post on here more I was always getting blasted for complaining about shows that I actually loved, so I figured I'd start a thread for it.
Mine is easy, Harry Potter, which is my favorite book series of all time, and I'll keep it short
My first complaint is Time Turners, she never should have introduced time travel into this story, it opens up too many obvious questions, #1 being why the hell wouldn't Dumbledore go back in time and kill 11 year old Voldemort when he met him at the orphanage?
Second complaint is Harry's attitude and temper. He has the emotions of a small child, ESPECIALLY in the 5th book. He refuses help and literally is the only reason Sirius died, fricking idiot
Third and final, small plot holes. There are lots of these whether it be side by side apparation (why didn't they do this to get to the quidditch World Cup? How is it possible Harry is one of the only people in his class to have ever done this?).
Also the ministry of magic can keep tabs on anyone doing magic around a minor? How could they not find anyone they wanted? How did they not know Voldemort killed his father when he was 16? It wasn't suspicious that he was in a house he'd never been in and 3 people were killed that night?
Finally the way they "trick" muggles. Seriously are people in England retarded? Most of the shite they do to trick them is amazingly obvious and would never work in a million years. Nobody notices several 100 people going through a brick wall at a busy train station twice a year?
Comment on mine, post yours!

I love the super hero universes for the most part however I have two big gripes with each of them.
DC - Stop the dark and gritty shite. It works for Batman but give it a rest.
Marvel - I appreciate comedy and jokes but ease up on the comedy a bit.

Because the Force is meant to be an ally, not a crutch. Yoda can fly, yet walks with a cane. There's an awesome scene in Shadows of the Empire where Vader is trying to focus his hate to fix his injured lungs. (I know not canon)

This was one of the easier things for me in the Star Wars universe. You ever been to Cutoff? Grand Isle? Ever been to a one horse town in West Texas? You think it takes a long time to get to Ferriday, LA? Now imagine flying to the edge of the galaxy to Tatooine. Or Hoth. Coruscant is in the inner Rim where most of your heavily populated worlds are. It's a big galaxy. Not to mention you're dealing with an Empire which is incredibly xenophobic, so non human worlds aren't held in high esteem.

You should tweet your questions to Rowling. She's been known to answer some of them to the point of actually tweeting out canon.

Her answers are usually shitty though, they'd probably make it worse. I LOVE Harry Pottwr but honestly don't think she's more than a below average writer who had one really great idea for a story

I will stick with Harry Potter. Why is there such a massive bureaucracy in the wizarding world? How does their economy work? What would compel a young wizard to work when everything that he ever needs is one magic trick away?
This leads me to my next question. Why was voldemort's rhetoric so popular? Everyone seems to be ok in the wizarding world, why try to burn everything down cause some a-hole wants to rule the world?
Was there a depression that lead voldemort coming to power?

That's a good one, I think the voldenort rhetoric being popular can be attributed to people wanting to feel superior.
If you think about it since it's such a small world it is probably easier to get people to believe this is like that, and it's clearly gone back a way.
The why do people work is a good one though. Like why are the Weasleys poor? Arthur has a great job and is super connected. It seems like all the people with money in the wizarding worlds are from pure blood families who inherited all, so maybe there was some economic crisis

1) I agree with the OP, her answers are shite and at times can near ruin parts of the canon. She can't let it go.
2) Voldermorts message isn't built around wealth or whatever. Much of it has to do with purebloods and mudbloods right?

Yeah, the way their world works makes no sense.

Exactly it's all about pure bloods being superior
ETA: they never really go into detail about why they think pure bloods are better. I think it can be assumed it has to do with being able to trace back your ancestry and also as simple as pure > half.
Ancestry and who your family is seems to be very important in the wizarding world

I imagine that the system is sort of feudal system not unlike Westeros. Old families hold the power, like the malfoy's.
So this means that Harry Potter's family was pretty powerful in their day.
I have just always been curious to voldemort's original rise.

If Superman can spin the world backwards to save Lois, why not just do it every time something bad happens?
Posted on 9/12/16 at 9:53 pm to Bham4Tide
Because Superman is a dick

While I'm thinking about it with HP. It's always bugged me that people can't say Voldemorts name. I mean cmon that's a little silly. We can all say Hitler

You a fan of The Dom brah?

Fellowship of the Ring - Tom Bombadil, Tolkien must've been on some seriously good shite when he came up with Tom, but for a story with very few plot holes and wtf moments, this is it for me. He makes no sense, and adds nothing to the story.
Back to the Future Part 2 - Doc saves Marty twice from death. Once jumping from Biff's Pleasure Palace and then at the tunnel right before the Delorean gets struck by lightning. My question has always been "how the hell did Doc know exactly when and where to be?" The only thing that makes sense is that MArty died and Doc had to go back in time to save him. We see the story from Marty's point of view so he would've never died on screen, its all continuous for him. Which is pretty fricked up.
In Back to the Future 3, there are two time machines in the old west. Why didn't they take the fuel line from Doc's to replace the one on Marty's. I mean, they never even mention Doc's time machine.

I don't think that's entirely fair. I'd say she's an average writer who abuses ellipses in ways that bear an eerie resemblance to domestic violence police blotters. She's reasonably technically proficient, just not an actual literary talent. She knows how to move a story along and (for the most part) writes in reasonably lucid prose. There are worse claims to fame.
Ever since I managed to (for the most part) get over being an obnoxious pretentious twit about literature around my sophomore year, I've learned to appreciate "popular" writers a bit more. I still love my Great Writers but see little reason to sneer at Adequate Writers.
(Meyer is still godawful in ways that make one long for book-burning festivals, though. The wife and I read the first book by reading it aloud to each other while driving long distances and laughing our asses off at how bad she is. We could never bring ourselves to continue past that one, though.)

IIRC, there's actually an explanation for that. You're entirely correct, and Tolkien actually knew that. Bombadil was an artifact of an earlier version of the story, one that was more centered around traditional British stories involving fairies and spirits. When Tolkien changed course to create high fantasy, he inexplicably left Tom Bombadil in the narrative for reasons he never adequately explained except to say Tom was essentially the representation of the unknown and enigmatic in this universe.
Basically, old Tom is rough draft material that made it into the final cut. He represents an older mythology that was heavily modified in the process of shaping the Middle Earth mythology we ultimately ended up with. Obviously Tolkien still had a purpose for him, else he would have cut Tom out. The purpose, though, is likely to never be made quite clear to the satisfaction of all, what with Tolkien being dead and all his writings having been heavily scrutinized.

They cast spells that forces the muggles not to notice and/or forget they notice.
