First if you run into "merging host files failed" message, don't CHANGE ANYTHING with adaway.

Instead go to the play store & download "terminal emulator for android".

Launch it

Type

quote:

su -

And SuperSU dialog will pop up prompting you to grant this access. Say OK.

Next type each of these (hit RETURN after each line):

quote:

mount -orw,remount /system
rm /system/etc/hosts
ln -s /su/etc/hosts /system/etc/hosts
mount -oro,remount /system

Go back to adaway and run it again. This time the host file building/merging will work.

DO NOT CHANGE THE HOST FILE LOCATION IN ADAWAY.

I'm sure eventually a new version of adaway will come out that avoids this, but this is the quickest/easiest way to get it running.

Reinstalled Android 7 3x today and this worked every time so I feel confident it will work for you.

(note cad sure as hell didn't come up with this, the adaway github forum is where I stole this trick from)
