Can anyone identify what type of bird this is? My dad went out to his camp today to check on things and this guy was very lethargic hanging out in his cypress tree. I know it's not the best picture, but my dad suffers from over 60 and electronically incompetent.

I guessed that it was a juvenile vulture, but I really have no clue.

It's an anhinga. It is pretty similar to a cormorant.

Thanks! It is still hanging out in the tree. I assume it's just nesting, but it allows my dad to basically get right up on him.

Democratic goose. I can't recall seeing one with wings tucked in, that one must have dried off after being wet and said screw getting back in all that water.

Fun fact - Anhingas were the original "water turkeys" due to their bicolored tail feathers that resemble a turkey fan. The saying transferred over to cormorants because they look similar to anhingas and people didnt know the difference and lumped them all as water turkeys

Anhingas also get called snake birds; when they swim their body is under water and only the long, skinny neck and head sticks out.
