Bruce Simmons Go Fund me

This is the Go Fund me for Deputy Bruce Simmons. His step-daughter posted on her Facebook tonight how nothing has been donated to the Whitney account they have set up. He is fixing to undergo a bone graft and has a long recovery. I know people have donated a lot to the families of the fallen officers but we can't forget about those that were injured. Please please donate. Below is her Facebook post.

quote:

PLEASE PLEASE READ: I am and always have been the mouth of my family. I hold nothing back. Every since the shooting, we have been blessed by people who have cooked for our family, who have visited and supported our family etc. we are very fortunate to have folks like that in our lives. We take NO ONE for granted. So id like to start out by saying thank you to those people. We love all of you very Much and appreciate you. However, I found out today that there hasn't been a single dime donated to the Whitney account that my family had set up for my step dad. Not a penny. That broke my heart. We are Very fortunate to still have him here. He's our hero. He doesn't think so but we know he is. I am going to post his first x-ray in hopes that some people will start helping them out. Maybe people don't understand the extent of his injury and think he will return to work soon. I honestly don't know why there aren't donation there. All I know is that there are ZERO DOLLARS in that account. He will be undergoing a bone graft in the next 2 weeks which will be the most painful surgery yet and the dr is projecting a 4-6 month recovery time period. That is a long time to be out of work. My mother is also out of work taking care of him. We appreciate all the fundraisers that are in the works and that have been done thus far. I am asking that my friends donate and share. Fundraiser funds aren't readily available at this current moment and bills don't pay themselves. Neither my mom nor my step dad will beg for money but I WILL on their behalf. Please, please, help my family out. There is a go fund me account set up by my aunt Rosalie fowler that you can donate to and there is the account set up at Whitney bank. Donate, share, then share some more. If you'd like to mail a donation to them directory I can give info in a private message to those I know. Again, thank you to those who have helped so far and please continue to donate. I will post link to go fund me in comments.

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Officer is still getting paid and he has health ins.

It is a crying fricking shame that tpos had 750k raised for him though.
I'm just not a fan of go fund me accts.

I don't know the specific benefits in Baton Rouge, but in many cases, they are treated like any other employee injured on the job. There are also in the line of duty benefits similar to workers comp At a % of salary.

No matter how he's compensated, it's not enough.

Average cop will work security jobs which account for between 20% and 50% of their income. This in addition to wife likely on FMLA, creates a financial crater.

He will start worrying about his family finances, and having a thought, "maybe it would've been better if I died", which he shouldn't. He's worth a few dollars from those able to still work, hug our children, wipe our arse with either hand, etc.

I don't understand why the mother would have to completely stay home from work to take care of him? Not trying to be negative, just genuinely curious.
