I heard on the radio earlier today a guy on a motorcycle was killed this morning not far from here because he was following a car too close. The front car stopped, the bike hit that car, and a car behind the bike hit him.
I've never understood the need to tailgate.

This particular stretch of road is a pain in the arse because there are really long inclines that the 18 wheelers get bogged down on. And, of course, they never want to get in the right lane so they essentially ride side by side and back up traffic.

1. Lessens your visibility
2. Lessens your available reaction time
3. Increases the chance to involve multiple vehicles
Makes perfect sense.
