Because they drive cars instead of spaceships.

I like the moto GP a lot better also. Much more exciting spectator sport to watch. Just that NASCAR is all over the airways and all you really hear about.
Probably has something to do with the history of stock car racing and that people use to like to soup up their own cars (in the 50's, 60's and 70's) and felt they could relate in some way as opposed to motorcycle and other types of racing.
Now it's just the momentum that NASCAR built up.
Plus the convienence of having a circular track for attending an event. Can watch the whole race go round and round from the stands and also have a party on the infield.
