Can you get an inspection sticker in any parish or does it have to be the parish you live in?

If your car is registered in EBR you have to go somewhere in EBR and can only get a one year sticker. In New Orleans you can go anywhere and get a two year brake tag.

There are five parishes in the state that require emissions tests. If you live in one of those parishes you can't go to a parish that doesn't do the test and get a sticker.

I think it's St. James, East Baton Rouge, Ascension and I'm not sure about the two others.

Also, Orleans parish does their own thing so you can't go there either. Fun fact, if a orleans parish officer pulls you over for an expired inspection sticker and you are from another parish he will let you go.

Vehicles registered in the 5 parish greater Baton Rouge area can only get inspected in those parishes.

Vehicles registered elsewhere can go anywhere.

New Orleans can get brake tags.

Is your residence listed outside of the 5 parishes that require emissions testing?

You are correct about St. James. There is a single station in St. James parish that can do the emissions test.

I know this because there was also a station in East Feliciana that did this. The problem was they would ONLY do the emissions testing at this station.

This was an issue because they declined my wife an inspection sticker. Her check engine light was on because her thermostat was stuck open. Big deal.

I knew the law and what it said and knew they should put a sticker on my car. I called the Dept. of Public Safety (state police) and asked why they didn't follow the law.

They said that they do the emissions testing there because Zachary didn't have a station and they were only a few hundred yards past the parish line. They said they only do the emissions test because if they did both, it would be tougher to audit. I asked the officer "do you mean to tell me that every single person that gets their car inspected at that place from East Feliciana parish pays an extra 10 dollars for an emissions test so your paper work will be easier?

They changed their policy in less than 24 hours because they had been unfairly taxing the people of East Feliciana for years over this. They had another station in St. James parish that did the same thing.

This policy has been changed.

Unless you live in Orleans, EBR, WBR, Ascension and Livingston I believe.

Someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong.
