The link is to a short YouTube clip of my choco lab doing a little training. Footage was shot by a friend with his JDI drone. Recommend changing the quality of the video to at least 480 p or higher. The dog is "Boot", a qualified all age field trial dog, National Derby list, and Hunting Retriever Champion.

Yes. He has been trained as a field trial and gun dog since he was 12 weeks old. Boot made the National Derby List and won a Qualifying at 24 months old. He was also one of the youngest dogs to pass the HRC International Grand in the spring. He will be running All Age field trials this fall. He's not a bad meat dog either!

At one point, Mr Louis told me he's got more money in his dog than his kids' education.

First of all, you have to be insane to play the field trial game. I qualify. It's a hobby, or as my wife says, an obsession. It will also produce a pretty good meat dog! :)

That's pretty awesome. You can tell he's a FT dog because he didn't cheat that mark. He crushed that.

I used to really care about stuff like that with mine, then I just started embracing the "get my ducks as quickly as possible" philosophy .

You don't having him sit and hold when he returns? That is one way of getting a wet arse.

My daughters dog is just about finish his training. She is using some guy up in Alec. The old man told my daughter that she has a great dog. Hell, at 4 months old, he did his field trail and passed and was teal hunting, bringing in birds. Come on dove and duck season.

Haha yes, she does. I was referring to cheating specifically.

Yea, your daughters dog didn't do any field trial at 4 months old. Not even hunt testing at 4 months. Maybe some confusion there.

Yeah.. They don't normally go to a trainer until 6 months. If you have a dog that gets a national pass at 1.. You've got a special dog.

My FIL had a dog that just died last year at 11.. First dog ever to be a master hunter champ 9 times. He was a special dog.

How do you know if the dog didn't cheat if he's returning the bird to the bird boy? It was a great mark but he could of ran back on land and been dq. I really don't see the point of doing that without some one throwing the bird for you or a remote launcher. The dog got nothing out of the that. Do you go to where the bird is dead and then ask him to bring it back to you once he retrives it?
