not exactly true, but it is a fact that according to a few studies 60% of athletes who put their tib/fib through a lot of impact (running, track, basketball, etc) and had a diagnosed stress fracture showed that they had one in the past.

1 year recurrence rates in those athletes were 12.6% as well. After that, there's not much good data otherwise.
