Better Final Fantasy Villain: Kefka or Sephiroth

Sephiroth really gets all the praise, but Sephiroth is more just an egotistical dick who really doesn't care for anything other than his goal to become a god. Kefka I think is really far worse than he is, and takes joy along the way of murdering as many people as possible. He goes through increasingly sadistic means not because they're more effective to what he wants, but because its fun. All Sephiroth is interested in is the bottom line. Therefore I think Kefka is better.
Plus I think Kefka also has the best villain theme ever for a game: LINK
What's your opinion?

I think this is one of the things that weighs a lot for people who say FF6 is better than FF7.
If we're talking strictly the original games, disregarding all of the spin-offs for 7, I will stick with Kefka. Sephiroth is honestly kinda cringey in the original FF7. They really sort of fixed him up in Crisis Core.
But Seph has to get a lot of credit because his villainry kind of helped bring RPGs to the forefront. He's definitely one of the better-known video game villains.

Sephiroth became the better villain when he killed Aeris.

Sephiroth is one of the most despised yet loved villains ever. He's pretty close to Vader status.

And Kefka is video game's Joker. It's a moot point here.
And I don't see an argument where Kefka isn't more despicable than Sephiroth. Sephiroth is defined by his identity and destiny. Kefka destroys the world simply because its fun, and nothing else.

When kefka poisoned the water, a very young Cajun was pissed.
That was the first time I remember getting angry at a video game character.

I never played FF7 so I'm a little biased but I'd say Kefka.
I remember feeling actual horror at the idea that he poisoned everyone in Doma.
It also helped that he had a fantastic foil in General Leo, who is essentially the epitome of honorable conduct in that even his enemies respect him.

Kefka. And it isn't close.

Despicable? Absolutely. But that's not what the question was. The question was, who was a better villain. In that regard, Sephiroth had a more interesting story behind him. He was trying to accomplish what he believed to be his destiny. Kefka had no ultimate goal really, he just liked chaos and death. There was never a time where you liked Kefka. There were times where you had pity for Sephiroth and hoped he could be changed.

Personally I prefer Sephiorth just because his look and weapon.
But Kefka successfully destoryed the entire known world. So you have to go with him as far as villains are concerned.

Kefka for sure. Dude destroyed the world. Sep was just a whiney bitch and ushered in a whole new era of whiney bitch villains.

Kefka.
A sociopath with a broken mind who actually achieved his goals. Unfortunately for him, the heroes survived and came back at him with a vengeance.
Sephiroth was just a little bitch who spent the entire game in the earths core while jenova clones did all the heavy lifting.

no contest...it's kefka. he was ledger's joker before that was a thing. a complete nihilist. I have this game on ds, i'm going to get to it after I beat luigis mansion and then majora's mask

Can we throw Golbez (FF4) into the mix or is he disqualified because he is redeemed?

My favorite FF villian(s) is still the Judges from FF12.
Between those two options, I think that Sephiroth made a larger impact on me with his actions whereas Kefka was definitely a lot more evil and sinister.

Kefka in every way in my opinion.
It is nice to have a villain who is just pure evil like him.

This too. Stabbed Geshtal in the back. Destroyed the Esper World too.
And his boss battle is awesome with an amazing 15 minute soundtrack (granted FF7's OST is no slouch).

Yup. So much 90's emo in Seph, and he popularized that villain type.
