one of my theories is what if El actually created the monster. Not on purpose or anything. But she is already in a dreamlike trance once she is submerged in the tank, so all of her fear & anxiety combined with her powers create this nightmare type creature in her subconscience that is lurking in the shadows every time they send her to this "void." When she panics after touching it that one time, not only does her freak out cause enough energy to rip open a hole between the real world and a parellel dimension, but it also pulls this monster out of her subconscience and into real life.
What if that was the doctors plan all along thinking he could use her to control the monster and kill the Russians?
Also, with it being a dream based monster, as much as they pull from Old School horror movies, that would definitely be the Freddy Krueger type.
That show blew my mind with how good it was.
And confirmed that King's works should be adapted in miniseries form with high production value rather than movies.

That is what I was getting at when writing all of that. It would definitely be the writers nod to the Elm Street movies if that is how it went down. I wanted to include that in the post, but forgot to write it.

The characters were great. I loved how they made Steve do right as well. They could have easily left it him being bad.
The sheriff stole every scene he was in. And either him or Winona should win an emmy.
I watched this in two sittings, and look forward to reading this entire thread.
I have to say I loved some of the things these characters did that were awesome...Like Winona walking back into the house after being about to leave in the car from fright. But no. She knows where her son is...and she isn't leaving him.
And I also loved how the lead scientist (Modine) approached the monster at the end. Like he was intrigued. That was a neat touch.
