Does it really matter? This is at the bottom of every Venmo email.
Venmo is a service of PayPal, Inc., a licensed provider of money transfer services. All money transmission is provided by PayPal, Inc. pursuant to PayPal, Inc.’s licenses. © 2016 PayPal, Inc.

Venmo is now popular in Louisiana. My first p2p transaction was with Square Cash so I have stuck with it.
Anyone heard of Splitwise? Similar concept but with some added functionality. If charges fees those in transactions.

I don't see any difference between Venmo and Paypal other than the social media aspect. You can send money for free through Paypal very easily.
Does Venmo use email addresses as "account numbers" as well?
