What are the Food Board's recs to check out this week, based on the menus offered? We just moved back to town and there are lots of places we've never been before.

Definitely go check out some of the new places. I haven't looked specifically at the restaurant week menus yet, but there are several newer restaurants that are definitely worth checking out, depending on your price range. My personal favorites on that list are:
Barcadia
City Pork
Zoroona
Beausoleil
Nino's

FB report in, anyone sampled a restaurant week menu yet? Trying to figure out which ones to hit up this weekend.

Had Table Kitchen and Bar last night. It was decent to good. I got the sirloin, it was the highlight of the meal, good cut of meat cooked to perfection. My lady got the hen, she said it was good but a little dry. Apps and desserts were decent but nothing mind blowing.
Considering Umami or Your Mom's for dinner tonight, depending on how classy I feel when I finally get off work.

I normally try to go to Doe's during restaurant week.

Yeah, went there last year, it was pretty good.
I try to use this as an opportunity to eat at any restaurants that I haven't tried before.

Did French Market Bistro tonight. The RW menu was comprised of regular menu items, so is a good representation.
I had a shrimp and crab pasta, was decent not great. Lady had cedar plank salmon and said it was fantastic.
On a side note, I also got some chargrilled oysters just cause, and they were the highlight of the meal.

We did Melting Pot last night. It was my first time to ever go there and I will never go back. The cheese was good but the main course was ridiculous. I had to cook my own food and I prefer not to eat boiled meat most of the time.
Tonight I hit up Cheesecake Bistro mainly because it is such a good deal. Most places have decent prices but this place makes it well worth it. The French Onion soup and the Crawfish Ravioli are awesome and I freaking love cheesecake.

I was there for dinner a few days ago and decided to just go a la carte instead of doing their restaurant week menu. In my opinion, they have one of the most interesting "normal" menus in the city right now, and the price of the prix fixe didn't approach making it worth it to limit my options.

I was not impressed with gouter at all...very small portions and very pricey

Compared to what?
I find both the lunch and dinner menus to be perfectly reasonable for what they are.

Gouter is a very divisive restaurant here. People, I think, mostly like it, a few are meh, and as many are not impressed. I find it between meh and pretty good. The menu is very hit or miss; the prices as well. It's not a "must go to" place for me. But I really want it to succeed in the neighborhood, so I try to support it. I think you have to go a few times and find the gems. It certainly is worthy of being a part of a rotation of "not a chain, not mundane" places in Baton Rouge.
Please feel free to aniihilate my opinion. I'm thick skinned....and have less than a 100 posts...

We did melting pot last night bc my wife been wanting to try it. I didn't like it along with lots of hidden charges that I wasn't expecting.
We did French market bistro tonight. Crab cakes, egg rolls, and filet were all wonderful. It may have been the best steak I have ever had. I would say the average age in the restaurant was probably 70.
