Also just as a reference from saturday:
Ingram: 3-12(FG), 0-3(3FG, 4REB, 7points.
Simmons: 3-8(FG), 10REB, 8AST, 7TO, 8points
Brown: 3-13(FG), 2-5(3FG), 1REB, 9points
Valentine: 4-16(FG), 0-9(3FG), 6REB, 1AST, 8points
Bender: 4-13(FG), 1-7(3FG), 7Reb, 12points
Murray: 2-11(FG), 0-3(3FG), 6REB, 4AST, 5TO, 6points
For reference, Hield Friday night on his first game:
Hield: 5-20(FG), 1-9(3FG), 6REB, 2AST, 4TO, 13points
Just thought it was worth posting for context sake. For all those that are really down on Hield for his first performance. Pretty much none of the guys before or after him have had very good games(Dunn/Simmons being the lone exceptions). Not to mention most of these guys I listed are not on their first game, so I will update after tonight.

I think it's insane that anybody gets up or down on any player based on Summer League. If he goes off for 45 tonight, it will mean nothing, just like Friday meant nothing
Let's just hope the kid stays healthy. That's all that matters

I agree, thats why I just wanted to bring that bit of context. To keep expectations in balance
I will say, I do think there is truth in the old adage that if you can play in Summer League there is no guarantee you can play in the NBA, but if you stink it up in the Summer League, the chances of becoming special in the NBA are pretty low. Though even then, this isnt a hard and fast rule. Wesley Matthews, Batum, DeAndre, Jordan I know off the top of my head were known for not having good Summer Leagues and I think they turned out just fine.
So yeah, if he doesnt come out of the Summer League looking like he belongs then it should be noted but nothing to declare him a bust over.

Buddy is also 23 and I would expect him to be more NBA ready. Not saying I am worried by he doesn't have that same developing his game excuse.

I am genuinely asking this - Is it fun to overreact? Is it both fun when it is an overreaction to good and to bad? What is the fun in this act?
I have always been, for better or worse, driven by pure logic. Spock-like, some might say. It blows my mind that we all know that SL means nothing at our core, yet some have "fun" by overreacting. I guess I am missing something. If it's fun for you guys, then carry on if course

Come on 504, we all know you are going to continue to concern troll until you absolutely have no room to concern troll anymore. Given the time it typically takes ANY player to reach their potential, we are in for a long ride of this stuff.
With that said, keep some perspective 504: Danny Green was a 4 year college player and was abysmal in Summer League. Same can be said about Wesley Matthews.
Though the best example may be Stephen Curry. Who put up a pedestrian 17ppg on 32% shooting as a three year player. While teammates Anthony Morrow and Anthony Randolph overshadowed him enormously. Johnny Flynn shot 48% and finished with 3 more APG then Curry.
Honestly the more I look into it, that whole adage I just spoke about a post earlier is kinda bullshite.

I'm rooting for him why would I want him to fail? I would expect him to preform better today.

All of it is bull shite. There is no correlation. It means nothing; whether he blows it up or misses everything
It gives our staff some time to work with him, which is nice, but that's about it. 3-4 months in, we can start to have a semi educated conversation about projecting his future. And then a real good convo after year 2. I know people hate to wait, but to have a good discussion, we will have to

I don't think its that empty but I agree with the meat of what you are saying.
Summer League is not going to write this kids future one way or another. It would be nice to see him dominate but seeing or not seeing that doesnt mean much IMO. To me its more about watching the individual skills and performances to evaluate him and identify strengths and weaknesses(like you said with his left hand which showed a lot of issue last game)

That is correct. You see where he needs work and give him specific feedback on that and ways to fix it. But honestly, the tape from college told you that. I guess Summer League can reaffirm things, but that's about it
My point is that if he goes off for 30 tonight, I will be no more optimistic than if he goes 4-17. He is, right now, who he was in college, and his improvement will come in camp, during the season, etc. it wasn't going to come between April and July

Exactly you're dull and emotionless. Not an insult can help you when there's an apocalypse. You'll survive a long time

Haha. Exactly.
Seriously, I am just trying to understand the appeal. Many things that people do make no sense to me, and I know I am not going to change 7 billion people, so I am just trying to understand

It is fun for some of the fans of the team. Nothing harmless.

But as an objective bystander, what I also see from afar is people building up their hopes, having that "fun" and then they melt when the expectations aren't met.
Is that fun too? Why not just have no expectations and enjoy it in the moment rather than building anticipation and then, more often than not, being disappointed?
