I like MMJ a lot, but James's voice can be grating at times, especially in a live setting.

And they miss the cut of your timeline by a year, but I'd put Wilco above them as well.

Can see an argument for them but after seeing both at Red Rocks over the past month, it isn't close for me personally. The quality of the music, the stage presence, the energy from the crowd was just overwhelmingly better for My Morning Jacket. Not to mention Modest Mouse opened for fricking Brand New.
