The OB talked me into buying a kayak which I love. Really like that it's low maintenance. But, I have a bunch of kids so id like to take them fishing so I was thinking of getting like a 15' aluminum boat with a 20 hp. Anyway, the OB talked some sense into me when I wanted a travel trailer so Im ready to listen

No. If you have kids and are wanting to have a good time you have to think of all the extra costs. Question number one is do you have a place to store the boat? If not factor in the monthly cost to store the boat and then the cost go up from there on fuel, tags, repairs, and anything else you could imagine. If you have a free place to store the boat and can pay cash for a $5000 boat then get ready to pay every time you take it out.

15' aluminum John boat w a tiller motor is the ideal low maintenance boat IMO.
Don't bother w decks and livewells at that level. They take up too much room.

You're going to put "a bunch of kids" in a 15' 20hp boat? Buy a "bunch" of kayaks.

How many kids and how old are they? How much boating experience do you have? 15' boat and kids sounds dangerous. Need to be safe on the water...especially when kids are involved.

Take them on some guided trips and see if they/you like it first. I started taking two of my boys last yr when they were 4 & 3. Be prepared for possibility of a short trip...

I have a 16' fiberglass skiff with a 25 tiller and it works great. It's very low maintenance since it has no electronics.

Unless you have disposable income No.
Mine has cost the same as a small child.

Pontoon boat 20-22', 90-150 hp, rig it up for fishing, most relaxing and enjoyable boat to fish out of, specially for kids to have room to run around on, also safe
