Dad graduated from Tulane in the 60's. It was very Jewish back then. He has a respectably Jewish nose and fit in fine until they discoverd he wasn't, in fact Jewish.

I'll have to ask about Yankee kids going there. That's never been mentioned and all of his college buddies were from the South.

It's always been Jewish. Eastern schools had Jewish "quotas" until the 60s.
How is it hard to see them in the SEC? Vandy is in the SEC. Thats not a bunch of southern boys. They're just a couple points higher on the SAT. Been that way for decades.
As for the SEC, at the time the SEC was just a confederation. They didn't play this 8 game schedule or even a consistent 7. The only schedule relief we got out of it was no more Alabama. Still played LSU, still played a Miss most years, still played G Tech (who could kill us), Vandy. Then we started scheduling Miami, PItt and BC - it's not like we started schedule teams like USL that were in the small college division. At the time, not much lost, but nothing was gained. But when the court decision that deregulated TV came down in the 1980s, much was lost by not being a member.
