Should have gotten this for my 22LR AR a long time ago.

I've mentioned my dedicated 22LR AR build on here a few times. It's the pistol configuration in my signature. I built it up using a CMMG 6.5" barrel and barrel collar and a CMMG Bravo stainless steel AR15 conversion bolt. Reliability has been less than ideal to put it kindly. Most of my problems have been FTE issues with the 22LR rim being extracted but not hitting the ejector so the case isn't flung out of the upper and I get a hangup. It will happen 2-3 times in a 27 round magazine. I know 22LR autos will never function 100% perfectly with bulk pack ammo, even my 10/22 isn't 100% reliable, but 2-3 times a magazine should be closer to 1 per 3-4 magazines. After lots of polishing and examining and cleaning and lower swapping and experimenting I'd come to the conclusion that sometimes the next round in the magazine will be tilted up at an angle instead of level with the top of the magazine. This round with it's nose sticking just a hair higher than it should will either push the spent round high enough so it misses the ejector or knocks the spent case off the extractor all together before it hits the ejector.
When I originally built the pistol I had plans on also putting in a Boonie Packer better mag adapter in it. The better mag adapter is a little piece of aluminum and steel that you stick in a regular AR15 lower so that you can use a S&W M&P 15-22 magazine in it. The 15-22 mag is WAAAY easier to load than the CMMG mag. The system also gives you a working last round bolt hold open and bolt catch. With it the manual of arms of the 22LR build is exactly like a standard AR15. On a normal CMMG kit the last round hold open is part of the magazine follower so when you remove the magazine the bolt closes.
Once I learned I had reliability issues I didn't want to put any more money until the build until I figured out the problem. Now that I wasted a lot of time and energy figuring out I have a magazine issue I went ahead and got the better mag adapter. Like night and day. Went through 4 magazines and only had one hiccup which was a FTF on a round with a nice clear mark on the rim from the firing pin. Boonie Packer gets a big thumbs up from me.

You spent FAR too much money on a .22! I'm sure it is fun, but why?

I'm not even sure what I just read.
I'll stick to my Marlin Model 60 for killing squirrels.
