A few other posters have been to Thailand/Cambodia, etc as well. There was a thread recently on Siem Reap that you may be able to find. We all don't mind answering any questions. I'm surprised they haven't shown up yet. They can tell you more about Chiang Mai. I had to cut that out due to time constraints.
