As a resident of Hammond, the correct answer is Tope La.

I'm a fan of Cate Street. That Wasabi Crusted Tuna is legit.

Mariners has the kickin chicken with a homemade Ranch sauce that tastes so good you know it's unhealthy.

Tommy's Pizza is good but don't be in any big hurry.

Hit up Eddie's frozen custard after.

The Steakhouse is the best steak for sure. One of the best i've ever had.
Cate Street Seafood is great because the menu has everything from sushi, to fried seafood to burgers. It is owned by the same people who own Trey Yuen so it has asian influence.
Kirins if you want sushi
Your Mom's if you want a burger.
Tommy's Pizza downtown is a local favorite and is awesome. Their breadsticks kick arse.
And if you want wings go to Coop Deville. My personal favorite wings.

eta: tope la is good if you want to spend a little bit. and definitely go to Eddys frozen custard after
Hope this helps.
