This seems like the perfect thread to tell random stories about my sportswriting ambitions in my younger days.

Back in high school, I used to be obsessed with the CBSSports NBA message board. I used to post on there constantly. Their NBA writer, Tony Mejia (now with Vegas Insider I believe), ended up leaving and they were looking for an NBA writer. Anyway, some fellow posters started a campaign to get CBS to hire me as their NBA writer. They ended up hiring Ken Berger, who had 14 years of sportswriting experience or something.

Anyway, moral of the story: In today's journalism world, no reader gives two shits about your credentials and any loser with a blog can do your job just as well, if not better than you.

I apparently got my first job out of school over several guys with years of experience because I was fluent with adobe programs and they wouldn't have to pay someone else to edit photos and videos lol.
