Essentially he said that they tell young beat writers to keep moving up the ranks with possibilities of becoming paid, but in the end there never was paid opportunities and it was a scam to just get free content essentially.

So I wanted to be a sportwriter when I got to LSU. After a year or so, I realized how fruitless that road would be and went another direction.

Anyway, one of my Journalism professors said he got an email from a guy starting a sports site looking for "interns." Basically, he was sending emails to every journalism professor at a major university to try and trick them into getting students to write for his bullshite site under the guise of an "internship." The dude was a college dropout who was a waiter and tried to pull this scam to pocket the ad revenue. Didn't last very long.

But yea, BR probably was doing the same thing.

Yeah, the guy who wrote the Deadspin piece said he just kept at it because they kept giving him credentials for Twins games amd he thought one day he's get a paid position, didn't pan out.

A lot of companies do that now with 'interns'
