Foothills Milling Co is a pretty decent place in Maryville. Not as long of a drive.

Old Mill Cafe was very solid when we went. Not anything to blow your socks off but everything is made in house.

A good friend of mine from college owns this. It's really good, IMO.

The best thing about Gburg last time I went was hanging around the cabin up in the mountains. Gburg and Pigeon Forge are nothing but tourist, pancake houses, and old time photo shops.

If you want good food and drink, Asheville is the way to go.

There is better scenery outside of Walland easily, you are just not trying if you believe that. I lived near there for years. I prefer other lodging, but if you like pampering, it is the best in the area for that. Food and drink can be found better in the region. Not taking anything away from it, its first rate, but the prices are bit inflated for reasons outside of quality. They want a certain clientele, so they price it accordingly.

I haven't been (wife has pressed us to do so a few times, but not so much lately), but your assessment is pretty much exactly as I picture the place. Just from knowing the location, I know there is definitely better scenery in the area. It certainly looks like a lovely place, though.

Can you expound on this please? I have a hard time believing this so I'm honestly wanting to know some of these better places in the region.

Tips on where? Please remember now that my wife enjoys the spa and yoga pampering and that we are in our early 60's.

We've been twice so far and have met some great friends and people at Blackberry Farms. It's easy for us (fly from Austin to Nashville and rent a car for the drive). We love Eastern Tennessee scenery as you don't really get that in Texas. The scenery, food, music...it's just different than Texas. Not saying it is better or worse, just different. We love it.

A lot of farm to table local sourced stuff. Menu changes a lot, they have a website you can check it.

It really depends on what you want to find I guess. I have a little bias too because I had such easy access to the place for years, it wasn't special to me. The former now deceased owner was trained in Cali and worked at French Laundry. If that is that type of place you look for in food/service, you will be hard to find something you like in that immediate area that competes with it in anyway. If you just want to be a foodie, there are lots of options that compete. Caffe REL is one of those gems where you will walk out of the place wondering what the frick you just experienced for $15-20 in a gas station. Why is this Belgian guy in this tiny little town in a gas station will leave you completely bewildered. Highlands has a few gems too.

i think you are set, go there, lol. It's a great place that's for sure. Just not really my type of place, my wife could live there though.

Snowbird Lodge is suppose to be a really cool stay, no spa though. I haven't got to experience their food, so I can't say for sure how fine their fine dining is though.

You in Chattanooga? Tell me where to eat Sunday night.

ETA, you got me all jazzed about the REL place, but I'm driving through there on Sunday and went online and saw they were closed then. Definitely filed away and placed on my "list", though.

Also... reservations are highly recommended.

They have a bakery now, as well, with lots of sandwiches. They change them up daily, I think. Open from like 11-3 on some days and till 7 on others.

Just any sort of decent bistro type place for two. Seems like a lot is closed on Sunday. I was looking at Easy. Is that any good or is there something better? I'm open to anything, though.

Enjoyed Puckett's Grocery near the aquarium for dinner a couple weeks ago. Tupelo Honey Cafe is always good. I like Urban Stack for burgers. Bluegrass Grill for breakfast. Flying Squirrel for beer/drinks.

Hadn't been to easy in a few years, never really liked it. It's changed several times since then though.

Cafe on the corner up on lookout has been decent bistro the few times I been up there. My wife really enjoys it.

Tony's Pasta Shop is ok

Alliea is a pretty decent Italian fusion place

Tremont Tavern has a good burger

Main Street Meats is probably a close second on burger

Terminal is a good pub style food.

Brewhaus has German fusion with good beer selection, food has been real hit or miss. When they hit it is good.

Aretha Frankensteins is a good breakfast bar

I've heard St Johns is really good, but I haven't gone yet.

There is a Tupelo Honey Cafe here that people like to recommend in Asheville, but I am not real partial to it.

There are a few others I am forgetting, will try to remember.

Thanks. Sadly, most that stuff is closed on Sunday night.

I've been to Terminal and liked it. Been to Tupelo Honey in Asheville and sort of share your assessment.

I might try Brewhaus (been wanting to go there for a while), though the wife was probably looking a bit more upscale. It's looking like we may be shite out of luck in that department, or maybe I'll just give that Easy a shot.

YA Tittle - I'm not sure if they are open on Sunday, but the wife and I really like Rembrandt's Coffee House and Back Inn Cafe.
