I recently bought a 15' flat back Old Town Predator SS150 Canoe and a 2007 2.5hp Merc to go with it. The motor runs fine, but I think it should push me a little better than it does. Has anyone ever upgraded the plastic prop it comes with to this Quicksilver Black Diamond Aluminum Prop? I'm wondering if I will see any, even small, improvement in speed.

I'm currently running at 8mph empty but can't get on plane. I am hoping changing the prop will help, even just a little. But if it won't do any different, I won't waste the $90. The design on the prop appears to be the same, so only the material of the prop would be changing.

2.5 is really small. That might be all the power it has. I would get a trolling motor.

8mph sounds pretty impressive.

Sorta related, I saw a propane powered outboard a few weeks ago. I had no idea. You just pug in a lantern canister. I was amazed. Instantly thought about whether one would work on Mung's Commander.

If the alum prop is gonna run you $90, sell the 2.5HP motor and get a 5HP. Then you'll get on plane like buttah. I'd buy a spare prop no matter what outboard I had though.
