How often should it be done. Have had annual inspections , but don't know how long treatment last. Mine is 5 years. No problems, but still being cautious. Thanks for input

Just got a quote for 1500 from terminex. I'm going to buy something from lowes and take care of it myself. Any recommendations out there?

I just had mine redone at my house and it was i guess 9 years because the house was built in 07 and I bought it in 09, but I do believe it was retreated as part of the house closing. so it could be more along 7 years. I paid a total was 526 for the termindor treatment which is now good for 15 years according to the pest control company. I think the annual premium is like 180.

Treatments should be done every 5-10 years, as the best products on the market last 10 years (Termidor or Taurus). Anything over is the company taking a chance that you won't have any issues.

Also, both of the products listed above are the best at eliminating Formosan termites.

Non relevant, but may be helpful to someone on board. During the late 50's/early 60's if you had a house in the south, Orkin put on a campaign for 100% assurance program that you would never have termites and if you did they would pay 100% of the repair costs; including replacement of entire home.

We had such a house in Baton Rouge 'til we moved in '06. Premium was $10/yr. This was also "transferrable to a new owner".

Background: At some point, I believe in the 70's, they balked on these contracts and subsequently had a class action brought against them in Atlanta, GA. They lost.

If you have such a home in Baton Rouge, check into this. The seller of the home that we bought used this as a major selling point in '87 when we bought the home.

PS: Orkin paid "extra special" attention to our home during annual inspections.
