I would say hotel status is one of the most overrated things out there. I have diamond with Hilton and platinum with Starwood, outside of accruing extra points status with airlines is much more beneficial.

I'd agree to an extent, but would say that personally, the points I earn from Hilton (and Marriott) that are compounded by my status with each, have been a huge benefit to me and my family.
