HDR1000 and Dolby Vision.

If your TV doesn't support the new 4K formats, it's already outdated.

Are you not familiar at all with the next gen formats for 4K TV's? High Dynamic Resolution and Dolby's own version called Dolby Vision.

I know you know what HDR is for still images, but the technology is now in TV's and not just for images anymore and it makes a DRASTIC difference. That's why I went with my Samsung KS8000 as it has full 2016 HDR10 support and future proof for years and years now, and not just that it supports it, but has one of the best HDR engines among 2016 TV's.

quote:

With the extra luminance, images take on a whole new level of detail. Dark scenes become less of a gloom-fest – you’ll be able to pick out far more in the shadows – while the added vigour of bright areas helps them to leap out of the screen. Colours also become richer and more lifelike, with more delicate blends and shifts in tone. Basically, it makes things look more realistic, more impactful and more detailed. And now HDR isn’t confined to still images: it’s on your TV and the cinema screen.

Yes, but it’s a different kind of detail. HDR isn’t about increasing the number of pixels, but about making every pixel that’s already there better. And this means that, while 4K generally requires a large screen size to prove effective, HDR’s advantages are plainly visible on a screen of any size.

Within Hollywood, some TV and filmmakers believe that HDR could be a bigger deal than 4K. Howard Lukk, VP of production technology for Walt Disney Studios, told Variety: “There’s a feeling in Hollywood, and even at the Walt Disney Studios, in order to change over the complete marketplace to a new format, we really need more than just pixels. Adding more dynamic range and more contrast really makes a big difference.”

Brah thats CAD style, although I would expected him to wait for a bigger discount on that B tier TV. Think of all the upgrades he is getting over his tube TV. He is jumping into the smart faux K TV world. Even got him a remote with a Netflix button. Can't wait for the thread complaining how dumb smart TVs are because of this one experience with a cheap set.

CAD if this is a TV for your kids room I think you could find a better deal on some other bullshite. If it was me I would move your living room TV into the kids room and upgrade that TV. You can get a nice new 2016 55" Samsung for only a couple hundred dollars more.
