Not taking anything away from those guys, but Bol and Mutumbo are only sometimes nominated for a few of the humanitarian awards that are named after Ali.

Just heard that eulogies will be delivered at his funeral by Bill Clinton, Bryant Gumble and Billy Crystal.

How did Crystal get thrown in with those two scumbags?

Ali is and was the biggest personality ever in sports. His global reach when there was no Internet and only 3 TV channels is unparalleled.

"The Greatest"."Mr. October"."The Great One"."The Chosen One".

Those guys didn't tell everyone to call them that.To me they're just nick names.

Imagine Sports-Center calling you "The Chosen One" at 18.That was a lot to carry.I respect Lebron for dealing with everything with decorum.

Back to Ali.Guy was great.Olympic Gold Medal.

Ruled the Heavyweight division for 15 years(?).

I pulled against him and for a stretch he was fighting a bum of the month on ABC,on School nights, every 3 months.

He was Great.

Very true SFP.

RIP Manute.

quote:

What really separated Bol from his NBA peers — and for that matter, most professional athletes — was his humanitarian efforts, his willingness to spend his money and risk his life for the sake of others. He was among the rare athletes, such as Arthur Ashe and Dikembe Mutombo, who absolutely dedicate themselves to something bigger than sports and their personal well-being. In Bol’s case, it was the plight of the people in his native Sudan, where civil war, poverty, sickness, crime and a lack of educational opportunities was the status quo.

At one point in time, more people on this planet knew who Ali was than God so I think that qualifies as GOAT status.
