They are "who?" to 99% of the country.

If you ask any football fan outside of Louisiana, and some surrounding parts, who Louisiana is none of them will have any idea what you're talking about.

This is a fixation in their own minds because they will never get out of LSUs shadow.

That's a false statement, because if you ran into me out of state and asked me who Louisiana was, I could tell you. Checkmate.

I still call them ULL and I lived in the area for over 20 years.

Bigger importance to Louisiana:

A) ULL
B) LSU

???

I love ULL - I have been to roughly 35 home football games over the years after going there, while never living in Lafayette after going. I went to 2 NOLA Bowls. I donate. I was 3rd generation of my family at the school(SLI, USL, ULL).

That does not change that in the hierarchy of schools in Louisiana, LSU is #1 (size, sports, educational quality), Tulane is #2 (prestige, educational quality) and ULL is #3.

ULL is a great school, but the administration and alumni / fans have inferiority issues. You see it everywhere.

I just wish ULL would be content with being ULL. Makes all fans and alumni look like sniveling assholes when this topic gets brought up.

Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns® is the nickname of the University’s athletic teams

Apparently the idea of actual name and nicknames are difficult for you to grasp. Let me help you out with an example.

Legal name: LeBron James
Nickname: King James, The Chosen One

quote:

LSU's legal name is Louisiana State University Agricultural and Mechanical College. Yet they utilize LSU and not LSU A&M for athletic purposes. It's not a difficult concept to grasp.

And you're right, ULL and LSU do the same thing:
LSU A&M --> LSU Tigers
University of Louisiana at Lafayette --> Louisiana Ragin Cajuns

Plucking the middle of the university name out to satisfy your inferiority complex sure is the same as dropping the A&M part.

But hey, it doesn't matter what I say. ULL will keep trying to be the University of Louisiana. And then other fans will have some fun reminding you that no matter how much you rant or complain to ESPN, you'll always be ULL/USL.

Louisiana Tech is above ULL. ULL is fighting with ULM for #5 in state. It is to close to call. Both schools are pretty much equal.

United States Patent and Trademark Office recognizes us as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. I'm pretty sure they fall outside of "y'alls".

because "y'all" applied for the patent before anyone else did. If ULM applied for a trademark for the Louisiana Warkawks, they'd get one as well

Where did I claim Louisiana Ragin Cajuns was the university's official name? Again, this shouldn't be a difficult concept to grasp. Countless universities utilize a nickname for athletic purposes. I've yet to run across someone claiming that the University of Louisiana is their official name.

Maybe Texas A&M should follow LSU's example and drop the A&M since it's so insignificant. It's no biggie, right?

The real issue is people getting butt hurt over what a university, students, fans etc. prefer to call themselves. I don't care what name someone uses while referring to the Cajuns and I graduated from the school. Seems like a whole lot of non fans care about the name as much as some diehard Cajuns.
