The best piece I have ever bought was from an artist from the Laffy area (I believe). I forget his last name but his first name is Hank (I'm at work, don't have the piece in front of me to look at name) and he has cerebral palsy. He moved from small studio to small studio.
I ran into him at a tiny studio about 7-8 years ago down at the Cajun Village. He paints swamp bar scenes on slate. He sold me a piece he had just finished painting for $40.
About three years ago, 20/20 (or some news show) did a story on him and the next thing you know, his stuff skyrockets to $600-$1000 a piece. He has stuff hanging in galleries from across the gulf south and other cities.
