Dallas runs a zone scheme with their DBs and their pass rush has been nonexistent.

Mingo was forced into a OLB position when he's clearly a WDE.

Great players in the wrong systems.

That's certainly a lot of the problem. Both have endured injuries as well. Would love to have both on the Saints.

Well said.

You could also throw Glen Dorsey in the mix of players who went to the wrong system (KC Chiefs)

Mingo is not a DE in the NFL. He's a much better fit as an OLB in a 3-4. He's a bit undersized there, but would be wayyyyy undersized as a DE.

The problem with Mingo is that he never became the pass rusher that Cleveland thought he would be. So they started using him as the coverage OLB. But he is now reunited with the DC from his rookie year where he started out very strong. And I believe he had some injuries that kept him from playing / working out. I did read where he's finally got his weight up and is now up in the 250lbs-260lbs. Hopefully the weight gain and being reunited with his old DC where he had success will have him playing well.

This right here. I still think Claiborne can kill it on a man coverage team. People don't realize that most great DBs wouldn't be the same in the opposite scheme. I've seen it too many times. The great DB gets traded or signs to another team and tanks in the new system.

For LSU last year Adams got 4 ints, but the rest of hist stats were pretty much exactly the same. The problem with that, is that his stats his freshman year we43 like in 5-6 starts and backup duty. IMO, he regressed in the zone scheme. Same for Tre White and Dwayne Thomas. That Florida game last year should have never been close and it is a great example of guys getting completely out of position last year, leaving average TEs wide open for TDs. Happened way too much last year. We had only lost Collins from the secondary (draft), but we dropped from 3rd overall pass defense to 65th overall. We recruit for a man coverage defense and go to zone out or the blue, and it messed us up last year. I'm not saying zone can succeed here, (because some great defenses use it in the NFL), but we weren't/aren't prepared for it.
