I should be getting 200 down.

You're probably not going to get 200 on an 8x4 modem (8 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels), even on a dedicated modem. If 200+ mbps speed packages are available in your area, it means that cox is using 12 or more downstream channels to deliver broadband. I had to buy an SB6183 when I upgraded to Cox premiere (200mbps). My 6141 couldn't provide full saturation unless it was 3 in the morning. We used to have a lot of U-verse subscribers around here a few years ago, but I'm noticing fewer of those "2WIRE" SSIDs now. I think people are getting Cox internet again because U-Verse deployment is limited in our subdivision (24mbps max).

WiFi is usually the poorest-performing feature of a gateway.

It would surprise me if your erratic speedtest results did not level out after an equipment change. At the very least, grab a new modem (easily returnable) to rule it out.

Yep back to back to back. I was hard wired into the modem with a older Mac. The modem was plugged into nothing else. Now I did not turn off wifi on the modem so there could have been things on it still I guess like my AC units thermostat, phone , other laptop...but no one doing anything on them I was the only one awake.

I am going to order that 16x surfboard today and see what that does. The real holdup on all of this is my security cameras. I didn't set up the system so I'm not familire with it...I know there are network setting on them and also for me to view them off the network. That's all router stuff so I'm hoping I can just turn off the modem in the cox box but leave it doing the routing for now. I'm waiting to hear back from the camera installers to see if I can swap my 24port switch to the new style that has the plugs on the back so it's a cleaner look in the rack. I also told them I want to ditch the cox box and migrate to the luxul router. In the mean time I'll get that new modem coming.

There is something up with the wifi now for sure. Since I got home yesterday max has been 7-8. That's not normal. I don't think I changed anything but testing channels on the router. I'll keep fooling with it. Thanks for the help so far.

This...When Cox was insisting it was me, I went and bought a second modem..I had a tech come on site and he did his walk through and concluded that the issue was my modem..I pulled the new one out of the bag and asked him to install it (pretty sure he peed a little)...Low and behold, there was an issue further up the line, and the less people that knew, the better
ETA: I would never recommend an all in one combo thing....
