I'm doing my bachelor party in Austin in the fall. Never been either so I can't really help - but I've never heard anyone say a bad word about it. I was going to suggest Austin but I knew it was past a 5 hour drive.

OP, if you do want to hit the beach, the Henderson Park Inn near Destin is adult only I believe and seems nice.
Also, the Pearl Hotel on 30A is supposed to be pretty bad arse. LINK
