The biggest factor to me comes down to which ships you're going on
looking like either Carnival Conquest, Norwegian Getaway, or Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas.

Oasis of the Seas looks like the most fun boat, and is also the largest.
Getaway looks to have the best food/dining options.
Conquest goes to the S. Caribbean.

I am booked on the Norwegian Escape in a balcony room for 7 days in November and it totals to right at $1,500 person for my wife and I, but this includes the unlimited beverage package and the specialty dining package...just for a comparison.

we have been in all three areas a number of times. We are divers as well but that is not our primary focus any longer. Western offers some great diving and you will see some green foresty areas as well as flat sand like Cozumel which I use to love 25 years ago. Central/Southern is good also for divers and non-divers alike. If you are focused on doing beachy type ports you will enjoy either and remember Roatan as well as Belize offer shore experiences in the mtns and rain forests. Eastern cruises especially out of PR that skip or minimize the USVI and BVI ports became our fav for the difference in the islands beauty and diversity, great. I say experiences as we don't book ship based excursions any longer as we have learned you can do more, with more flexibility and less expense and crowds going ashore and booking or on line before hand. Sometimes we just find the taxi stand boss lady and get a taxi for the day and say "take us". Those have been wonderful and more local experience.
Been blessed to see most of the Caribbean on cruises, week long stays land based and from a bare boat charter in the USVI/BVI which is fantastic and so different than VI port stops. We mixed business with pleasure in the Caribbean with our business before we sold it.
If I can help just let me know here on TD by sending me your email.

I would say it comes down to NCL or RCL. Conquest is ok, but it's a MUCH older ship than the other 2, and it's a good bit smaller.

Getaway is practically a brand new ship(2014) which is awesome, and means it has a lot of cool features. It's also right up there as one of the biggest ships in the world(not including Oasis class, those ships trump everything in size). Plus NCl is including the UBP, which to me is a great value.

Oasis-class ships are some AMAZING ships, unlike any other you can go on. It's so massive that you could never get off the boat, and you would never be bored. So with this option you obviously get more things to choose from, and you will be in awe of the sheer size. Having said that, there is no perks with RCL usually, and Oasis ships tend to be some of the most expensive.

Based off everything, I would definitely pick the Getaway for you. It's the right mixture of being big, but not overwhelming for a first time cruiser, it's a good itinerary, and you get some perks included.

I have to ask about the price again, when are you planning on going?? Is it over a holiday?? Which stateroom class are you looking at?? I'm still trying to figure out the $1500 a person, that sounds really high.

I have never done Southern Caribbean but I can say that if you do Western then I highly recommend the Cozumel, Roatan, Belize itinerary. Great stops. Roatan is amazing. Cozumel has plenty of things to do. Belize wasn't great but weather wasn't cooperating that day so I don't hold it against the port. Will be doing Jamaica and Grand Cayman in addition to Cozumel in a few weeks and will have done all the Western Caribbean itineraries.
