booking something close to Centennial Park or Turner Field
Centennial Park is downtown; it would be ok. I wouldn't stay near TF.
If it was me, I'd probably stay in the Perimeter area.
The outlet malls are outside of town, one around Commerce up 85, one up 400 and one south of town.
Don't go south. Traffic is a nightmare down there. Up 400 would be best I think.
edit: didn't know about the one in Woodstock. Good idea

If you stay near Centennial Park, you'll be close to World of Coke, the aquarium, and College Football HOF. However, if you stay anywhere near a MARTA stop and you're OK with public transit, then all of those areas are easily accessible.
Midtown near 10th street is great if you plan on going to Piedmont Park and want to be a short drive/cab/uber from great restaurants. There's also a MARTA stop nearby.
Staying near the perimeter and 400 makes leaving town for the outlets easier and also gets you near Perimeter Mall and the Dunwoody MARTA station. Personally, if I was visiting Atlanta I would want to stay in the actual city.
