There are Shake Shacks all over the damn place. Strolled right into one on 3rd Ave betw 39th and 40th a couple weeks ago, just after noon, and there was only a 3-5 person line. Was very happy to have a draft Abita Root beer...and the chicken sandwich is legit.
If you're into ramen, Ippudo (nicer resto, go at off hours) or Totto (no frills basement, very japanese) are good Hell's Kitchen choices.
A stroll through the Union Square greenmarket is always fun, with plenty of snacking options. Pennsylvania dutch pretzels, the goodies from Hot Bread Kitchen, fresh apple cider, etc. Deets here: LINK
