I wish I knew more about NYC but I like and not limited to midtown. Im sure to someone with way more NYC info will look at this list and scream noob, but here it goes:
Coffee: Stumptown in the Ace
Lunch fare: Gramercy Tavern, X'ian Famous Foods, pizza/pasta spot in Eataly, Salvation Taco, Earl's Beer and Cheese.
Drinks/Snacks: Death & Co., Employees Only, John Dory (oysters and martini/wine), Bemelman's Bar.
Dinner: il Vagabondo, The Dutch, Momofuku, Balthazar (some will say this place is overrun with tourists and is not good, but I love the spot).
Late night fare: Mad for Chicken at Turntable.
