Stay anywhere within the trolley network, and take the trolley to qualcomm. Drops you off in the parking lot of the stadium, and beats the hassle of trying to drive. Best bet for hotels are in Mission Valley, near the stadium, or some where downtown (~15 min trolley ride each way)
What do you like to eat? San Diego has okay food, but it isn't the best food town. The gaslamp in downtown has about 100+ restaurants, of a wide variety. Yard house is your place if you are into craft beer (craft beer scene in SD is huge), Hodads is a few blocks away and one of the best burgers you will have in your life. There's also a wide variety of Brazilian steakhouses in the same area, if you want to spend some money.
The beaches are always nice in October, especially La Jolla cove if you want to make a 30 min drive. Balboa park, the zoo, and the multiple museums are also very nice.
Did you get tickets yet?

Thanks blackandgolddude for (1) The info and (2) not being a douche like geauxtigers87. So far I have only booked flights. Going to catch the Dodgers\Padres on Wednesday the 28th and play a round of golf at Torrey Pines on Thursday. That's all I have planned so far.

I agree on all except the food. There's almost nothing to do except eat in San Diego. Get out of the gaslamp district first off. Great food in South Park and the other close burbs. Also if you do go up to La Jolla they have some amazing food, look for Peruvian and get ready for the best tres leches of your life. About 50 spots claim to have the best fish tacos ever, and its hard to argue with any of them.

Our group is also doing this away game this year. What airline did you book through? Trying to figure out the best option.

They have a hodad's downtown? I lived in point lloma for awhile and would always go to the one in Ocean Beach. It's incredible

I don't think I could disagree with a statement more. If you even remotely like being outside it's the far and away best city in the country to be in.

Stay downtown and hang out in the gaslamp. It's great.
It's a long trip to the stadium from there, but worth it. (I saw someone else mention a shuttle system, I haven't used it but if it exists, that's the way to go)

Is there a big difference in the Horton Plaza part of Gaslamp vs the Convention Center area?
Posted on 4/27/16 at 1:39 pm to King9274
I prefer to be on the Convention Center end because it's close to the water and the things I like to do, but I'm sure others will disagree. It's all pretty much walking distance though. I'm there every July for Comic Con and nothing is really "too far to walk"

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means 'a whale's vagina'.

It's a great city, I'd stay downtown and take the trolley system, it's a train, to Qualcomm for the game. Downtown is cool but rent a car and get out off downtown, there's so much to do here. I'd just Google things to do in San Diego and take your pick.
I'm am looking forward to this game so much, every week the away fans take over in that stadium and it's our time.

The yard house downtown is closed. Hit up The Local downtown on C St if you're a fan of craft beer. Karl Strauss ain't bad either. Barley Mash is a pretty good happy hour spot, half off on all liquor I think, they have a nice whiskey selection that included Blanton and Michter's and other quality drinks.

Also my favorite spot to get a burger downtown is Waters Fine Foods and Catering.
