That’s the convo that we were having earlier in the thread. It’s basically because it’s a Weller, but it’s priced about right.

It's like a campfire in your mouth. I'm not big into this style yet, but working on building my palette for it

You’re starting too big IMO. Grab a Highland Park 12. It’s mildly pester and delicious. Or the Lagavulin 16, which is outstanding.

I’m currently working my palate for peated, and I think jumping into the heavy stuff is brave. Tallisker was my first taste, and I liked but found it off putting.

Lag16 changed my world though. Had it just before Christmas, and I was instantly hooked. Bought the HP12 recently and think it’s wonderful and drinks above its price.

Two days ago I finally tried Laphroig, and I enjoyed it. The finish was difficult, but everything else was good. I think building up to it was key.

Nothing compares to that Lag16 in my small sample size. It’s so unique and delicious. The perfect balance

Ardbeg is great. If you decide you like the 10, check out the Corryvrekan, their cask strength offering. Incredibly smooth for such high abv.

The An Oa is a nice one too, but if you don’t like a really strong peat pls or it may not be for you.

I was gifted a bottle of Talisker 10 a few years ago. Hated it at first, but I like it now. Scotch is just something I never really messed with until recently. I think it's because I tried Jonnie Red and hated it so much in college.

I watched a few videos reviewing the Ardbeg while drinking it and I already am starting to pick some things out that I like. It's just very different from my usual pours.

Don’t give up on Talisker.

The first glass I had of the 10, I thought it was awful and even thought about throwing it away.

But I didn’t and went back to it a month or so later and it was like a totally different bottle. Really enjoyed it after it had some time to breath.

Their 18 year old, Distillers edition and Port Rhugie (sp?) are also really good. Talisker Storm is just Ok, nothing special.

Lag 16 is definitely one of the all time classics. But I like the DE a little bit better.

And if the 16 rocked your world, try to find the 12. It’s a limited edition bottled at cask strength. I was blown away by how good it is. It might be the absolute perfect Islay Whisky.

Grab a Highland Park 12.

That is solid advice. I love peats but the Highland 12 is a wonderful pour and has just the right amount to start you off.

At some point soon I’ll need to grab this one.

Have a growing stash of about 70 bottles of scotch but I’ve never even had a sip of Highland Park.

Funny because this was my pour. Was in Churchill’s back in summer looking to try some peat, and another customer suggested the storm. The girl working gave me a taste, and I was undecided. Was my first ever peat pour, so I had to adjust to it. I didn’t like nor dislike it. It was like trying hummus for the first time

I’m glad you said this! I’ve been seeing it and thinking of trying. At that price point I was nervous to blind buy, so this is all I needed to push me over the edge. I’m adding it to my February buy.

If you decided that you like Storm, try some of the other ones I mentioned. I don’t think Storm is bad whisky, but it’s the bottom end of Talisker’s range.

Do it. I think it’s great.

Now I’ll admit, my opinion is a bit controversial as most people I talk to prefer the 16 (which is an incredible Scotch). There is just something about the DE that I like just a little better

And again, if you can find the 12 grab it. It’s a bit more expensive than the others but damn it’s so good.

And if you like Lagavulin but don’t want to spend a lot of cash, the 8 is not bad.

It definitely tastes young. The peat hits you on the face and it doesn’t have the depth of flavors as the older bottles. The first couple of pours did not impress me at all, but it got significantly better the deeper I got into the bottle.
