Like a 5th speaker will transform 4 ceiling speakers into a surround sound system?

This is quite easily accomplished. Receiver + zone 2, run Zone 2 through a zone selector controlled via remote. universal remote with RF such as the harmony home w/hub

Some other receivers will have stereo zone 2 outs which can be fed into a line level audio distribution channel- w/multi amp.

You can, if you know what you're doing, have multiple stereo-connected rooms + surround sound living room.

Or, if you're commenting on the ceiling being an inferior place to put the speakers- some people like it. And to some, it sounds plenty good enough. I wouldn't do it. But if running 4 ceiling speakers, I'm at least curious as to why not a 5th.

It's Gaston being Gaston. When it comes to audio he's a one track mind.
