If information is accurate and not a mere smokescreen...Smith should undoubtedly be 100% removed from draft consideration no matter the round.

You wouldn't consider him in the 7th rd? What are the chances that a healthy 7th rd pick even makes the team?

Have you seen our roster?

Depends on what position that pick is used on but you are looking at someone who is very likely to be on our final roster if he even has a pulse.

Strief and Colston were both 7th rounders. Thomas Rawls went UDFA a year ago. Talent can be found anywhere.

Look at how many UDFA's/Rookies made the team/got serious playing time last year. Many of them were not good by any means...how many positions on our current roster could legitmately be upgraded with a 7th? off the top of my head WR depth, OL depth, DL depth, DB depth, Starting K...all of whom if they make the 53 this year would play serious minutes and could evolve into a starter if we got a "find".

How many times has Sean been burned drafting players with injuries/potential. When has that ever worked for this current regime? Jaylon has a worse injury than any of those players.

How many teams would have passed him over how many times by that point with full knowledge of his medical records, with better rosters, and more picks than us?

Smith's Tests are bad

Nerve damage confirmed, "Not sure if or when nerves will regenerate" Almost 100% he's out at least for 2016. Still not off my board, we took Tull last season despite knowing he would be redshirted, and nobody was ever saying he was possibly the best player in the draft

The 7-Round Mock on CBS yesterday by Dane Brugler has Jaylon falling to the 4th.
1 pick before us.

111. Detroit Lions – Jaylon Smith, LB, Notre Dame
112. New Orleans Saints – Kenny Lawler, WR, California

Saints (6 picks)
1 (12) – Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville
2 (47) – Xavien Howard, CB, Baylor
3 (78) – Deion Jones, LB, LSU
4 (112) – Kenny Lawler, WR, California
5 (152) – Kenyan Drake, RB, Alabama
7 (237) – Romeo Okwara, DE, Notre Dame

Instead of thinking Marcus Lattimore, think Peyton Manning.
Neural regeneration is a funny business. It could take 1 year, 2 years, maybe never...
You aren't asking just WHEN it might happen, but also will Jaylon be the same player when it does?

I feel terrible for the kid, but with our needs, I wouldn't touch him till the 5th.
We have the opportunity to leave the first 4 Rounds with immediate contributors at DT, OL, WR and DE/OLB....
We won't roll the dice. Let's wish Jaylon well on someone elses team.
