A couple of friends and myself are trying to plan a zion trip but this looks amazing as well. Looking at July 2 - 6. Would it be possible to stay in moab and also knock out zion for a day?

Me along with the wife and kids are headed out there June 26 - July 5. We're going to hit the "Mighty 5". To answer your question, I don't think Zion is feasible from Moab. It's about a 6 hour drive I think. We are spending a few days in Moab to go to Canyonlands and Arches. We will stay in Springdale, Utah to visit Zion and Bryce and will spend 1 night near Capitol Reef.

It's a long enough drive between the two, like 5 hours each way.

Nope.
Maybe living in Denver has made me soft but y’all going to Moab in the summer is insane to me. It’s hot af. I don’t even consider that place Memorial Day(usually earlier) to early October. It’s literally the desert.
