There are only two things you need to know about bow fishing:
1) Aim low - about 6 inches under the fish for every foot he's below the surface.
2) A fish will ALWAYS appear right next to the boat while you are reeling in your arrow after missing one 20 ft. away.

For real, though, you will get the hang of it pretty quickly even if you have no bow experience. And choose your shots wisely, because there really will be plenty close to the boat. Don't pass up every difficult shot because you will get lucky here and there, but don't spend all night taking shots at everything you see when you know you ain't gonna hit.
If you're inexperienced, a shooting glove or whatever they call them is a good idea. If you tear up a finger early on, it's going to be a long night. The guides usually carry electrical tape to wrap fingers in this instance, but a glove goes a long way.

My friends and I are doing the same next week in Grand Isle for my cousin's bachelor party.

One question based on recommendations here:
