How much of an "improvement" will it be for a single male under 30?

As someone that is in the same-ish demographic, I'd consider this an upgrade. Only downside is you're a little further away from Nola-BR-Lafayette (if that matters).

I like Shreveport, but I like Lake Charles more.

I think the proximity to Houston/Laff/BR/NOLA is key to LC. Shreveport is on a semi-island, kind of close to Dallas but not really
