Maybe because of the cap getting bigger, but I'm not sure. When you're that old(relatively), a year can make a big difference. I'd rather negotiate at 37 coming off a healthy and league-leading passing season than 38 with who knows what kind of season or shape. Peyton Mainning went from setting all time records and winning the MVP in his 37-year-old season to a weak-armed sort of embarrassment just 2 years later. And he's 6'5". Drew is barely 6'0". I think he's taking a pretty big gamble not extending now. I hope to God it's not true, but I'd bet he's in at least a little worse negotiating place this time next year.

I know it doesn't sound ideal, but what if he sucks arse this year, we get a top 5 pick next year, get a franchise QB and move on. We would have a ton of money to gather pieces around the young QB. Doesn't sound that bad honestly.
